How To: Scrunching To Make Hair Wavy
Sep 01, 2017

Why should you set your wavy locks down (i.e. wear hair down, without any bands or clips)? What’s so good about it?

One of the things that make this style so great is the fact that the look is as versatile as the setting down of long, straight locks. It is good for the office, the beach, on date night with the boyfriend or husband, and on concert night.

It is also very easy to pull off, provided that you already have wavy strands in the first place. If you don’t, nothing to worry! Scrunching is a quick and easy way to make wavy all natural strands on your head and any Human Hair Extensions Online that have been installed among them.

Scrunching Steps
1. Look for the diffuser attachment intended for the blow dryer barrel. Many blow dryers have a diffuser attachment which can be set on the blow dryer barrel. Diffusers disperse heat over a much wider coverage rather than shoot air in a single stream.

For best results, make sure that the diffusers you will use are round and have a concave area in the middle. Avoid using the one that’s shaped like a duck bill. It is the rounded type of diffuser that helps curls dry in a more natural shape since curls are allowed to rest in the diffuser as they dry.

2. Wash locks before scrunching. It’s important that locks are washed since you will need to dry wet strands using the diffuser to create the waves. For best results, wash strands using a shampoo and conditioner that works best for the kind of strands you have. Another option is to clean strands with co-wash, no-poo, or low-poo in place of shampoo. Low-poo or no-poo are shampoos without detergents in the cleanser.

3. Air-dry or towel-dry the strands until damp. To avoid frizz when doing this step, a soft towel fashioned from microfibre or an old, soft shirt can be used. Once you have either item, do the following steps:
* Blot out moisture at the roots.
* Take strands by sections, then pat the wet strands in between folds.
* Allow strands to air-dry for at least half an hour. This way, it is less wet and more damp when you actually begin blow-drying. Alternatively, the head can be wrapped with a soft towel for a maximum of twenty minutes.
* Avoid squeezing hard or wringing strands out with the towel as this can damage strands.

4. Apply a styling product to strands. Depending on preference, you can use styling cream, gel, or mousse. Heat protectant cream or spray can also be used on strands to protect them from the heat.

To get the most out of the application of mousse or cream, it is mandatory that application is done properly. Rub the mousse or cream on your palms. Instead of going through strands from roots to tips, scrunch hair in sections beginning from bottom up with your hands so the cream is lightly distributed to natural parts of hair. In the case of short strands, do the above. Coat clumps of strands from the topmost part of your head by scrunching locks with the treatment product on your hands.

5. Scrunch locks in sections. Invert your locks, and with the diffuser and your hands, dry waves and define curls. Set the dryer below you and point the barrel upward. Then place a portion of your locks in the diffuser concave. The heat from the diffuser should form waves on strands.

Next, drop strands from the diffuser. Shape a hand into a claw and use it to slowly scrunch strands up from the bottom. While hair is scrunched, aim the dryer at spaces between fingers. When hair has become mostly dry, let the strands fall, and repeat the above with other sections.

6. Set the dryer to cool, and use the cool air to dry hair for up to one minute only. Doing so will help in setting your hair’s style. This also seals cuticles so waves remain in place.

7. Apply light hairspray to locks. Flip head over then spritz locks with spray so waves are preserved. Scrunch a section of strands up using a hand when doing this so the wave stays in place.

Once you’re done, your actual strands and any HHEO products like red hair extensions from NSW that have been installed among them should appear wavy. With wavy locks, you will no longer need to spend a lot of time to fix them when wind and other things disarrange your hairdo.
